The District offers pond planning and management consultation to Chautauqua County residents who are interested in constructing a pond for wildlife, recreational and/or fire protection uses. This service assists potential pond owners in the evaluation, layout, and design of ponds. Pond management advice is also available to landowners with existing ponds.

Pond owners that are experiencing an issue with algae and/or aquatic vegetation are encouraged to consider Barley Straw Pond Kits and Triploid Grass Carp instead of using aquatic herbicides.

Barley Straw Pond Kits and Triploid Grass Carp can purchase by calling the Chautauqua County Soil & Water Conservation District at 716-664-2351 Ext 5. Barley Straw Pond Kits are typically available year-round and Triploid Grass Carp are distributed through the District’s Spring Fishpond Stocking Sale.
